TALKING WITH ISABEL WILKINSON SCHOR
Designer Isabel Wilkinson Schor grew up on East 19th Street in Manhattan. She started her career as a journalist at T Magazine before evolving into a designer, CEO, creative director and mother of two small children. Inspired by her metropolitan surroundings and the desire for a wardrobe that could transition between the many facets of her life, she founded Attersee in 2021.
The brand has emerged as a luxury line defined by its timelessness, attention to detail, and a storyteller’s approach to how clothing can be imagined and made for its wearer. Focusing on subtle individuality and thoughtful design, through Attersee, Wilkinson Schor has built a brand that grows intentionally, shaped by real-life functionality, personal perspective, and close attention to how women move through their days.
Attersee’s trunkshow is at River Crossing May 7-9, and features the new summer collection.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE STREET TO CROSS?
19th Street between 3rd and Irving, near where I grew up. We used to call it “Block Beautiful.”
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT NEW YORK? OR CAN YOU GIVE US A REASON TO STAY IN NEW YORK, AND A REASON TO LEAVE?
An impossible question! New York feels like it holds all my past and all my future, rolled into one. It has something for every version of a person you could ever want to be: there’s a community for anyone, a subculture for everything. I see no reason ever to leave.
CAN YOU NAME SOMETHING REPRESENTATIVE OF EXCELLENT CRAFT?
Thoughtfulness and care. Someone who rejoices in the tiniest, most minute details of a process — and puts as much attention into the smallest parts as they do to the final whole.
WHAT’S ONE THING YOU CONSIDER ASPIRATIONAL?
Running a small business, both as CEO and Creative Director, and having two small children, doesn’t leave much room in my life for creative inspiration. I aspire to be a better parent, team member, partner, friend — and still have ample personal time for travel, inspiration, reading, and seeing more art in New York.
